Freedom in Christ
“Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
John 8:34-36
Today more than ever, our society is overwhelmed with depression, anger, grief, fear and anxiety. Reasons are varied as the sands on the beach; health conditions, side effects of medication, life events, tragedies, discouraging words, a job, genetics and the list goes on. Satan is clever at using these to turn our focus inward and once we're down, he turns up the heat. He knows the hot buttons to make it stronger, and the stronger the depression the weaker the will. But did you know that there is one that is stronger still? There is and His name is Jesus.
Close your eyes for a moment and paint a mental picture of a chain that is attached to you. Now label it “resentment”. Now picture another and label it “shame”, and another and label it “depression”, and so on with “loneliness”, “addiction”, “sickness”, “fear” and “anxiety”.

Now, picture God Almighty in front of you and He is speaking His word to you. “Come!” He says. But you reply, “These chains are holding me back from You and from everything I desire! I can’t move!” And He says, “Child, I have already taken care of that. My Son, Jesus, paid your penalty for those chains. He took them all, you just have to trust me and let go. Look down, the chains are already broken! What’s more, look to Me; I am giving you My desires.”

Seeking out God’s will …. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

And then God grants desires that are His…..Psalm 37:4, “Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
For starters, ask yourself who is in control of your life? Satan? You? or Jesus?

The fallen angel only seeks to destroy yet is already defeated himself. In other words, not only does he not have your best interest, he's the loser.

You, me, each of us, are an imperfect sinner. We are human and therefore susceptible to error; it part is of our nature. (Romans 3:23) If we only rely on ourselves, we will ultimately fail.

But Jesus, He is God's son. Conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, He was the spotless lamb of God. He healed the lame and made the blind to see. He turned water into wine and walked on the sea. He calmed the storms. He defeated death on the cross. He raised from the dead. And He died for YOU! He paid the penalty of death so that you can have a relationship with God, who is the author and creator of the universe and who created you. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" John 3:16
How do you allow Jesus to take control of your life? Simply ask Him.
"because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

He who has the power to forgive your sins, is He who can set you free...
"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death." Romans 8:1
When you make Him Lord, you put Him in control and you are free.
